Manti (recipe)

Manti are traditional Central Asian steamed dumplings with a meat filling. Learn how to make them at home.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g beef or lamb
  • 2 onions
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 500 g flour
  • 200 ml water
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 100 g vegetable oil

Preparation:

  1. Prepare the dough: mix the flour, water, and a pinch of salt. Knead until smooth, cover, and let rest for 30 minutes.
  2. Prepare the filling: finely chop the meat, onion, and garlic. Mix with vegetable oil, salt, and pepper.
  3. Roll out the dough into a thin sheet and cut out circles about 10 cm in diameter.
  4. Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each circle and pinch the edges to form manti.
  5. Arrange the manti in a steamer and cook for about 40 minutes.
  6. Serve hot, with sour cream or yogurt sauce.
