Experience of a Russian Chef in Serbia

Experience of a Russian Chef in Serbia

We spoke with Ivan, a home chef who recently came from Russia to Serbia. He shared with us his experience of working as a chef in this country.

How did you decide to come to Serbia and work as a chef?

"I have always been fascinated by Balkan cuisine. When the opportunity to come to Serbia arose, I couldn't pass it up. Serbia has a rich culinary tradition, and I wanted to be a part of it."

What were the biggest challenges you faced?

"The biggest challenge was adapting to the local ingredients and cooking techniques. For example, there is much more grilling and use of cured meats here than in Russia. It was interesting to learn and adapt to these differences."

What do you love most about Serbian cuisine?

"I love the simplicity and authenticity of Serbian cuisine. Dishes like ćevapi, sarma, and ajvar are a real pleasure to prepare and eat. I also appreciate the hospitality of Serbs and the way food is shared with family and friends."

How has Serbian cuisine inspired you?

"Serbian cuisine has inspired me to experiment with new dishes and techniques. For example, I started combining Russian and Serbian recipes to create unique fusions. It has been a very inspiring experience for me as a chef."

What are your plans for the future?

"I plan to open a small restaurant offering a combination of Russian and Serbian dishes. I believe such a concept could be very interesting for the local population and tourists. Until that becomes possible, I have discovered mykuvar.com, where you can quickly get started without the complexities of opening a restaurant."

We thank Ivan for the conversation and wish him much success in the future.
